US equities fall on downtrodden NFP, S&P holds over 1700

FXstreet.com (New York) - The US stock market paused Friday as investors digested weak NFP data from earlier today.

In the United States, Nonfarm Payrolls (July) were reported at just 162K, missing expectations of 184K, and lower than 188K in the month of June. Moreover, the Unemployment Rate (July) fell to just 7.4%, beating estimates that called for 7.5%.

Beginning with the indices and composites, the NASDAQ fell -0.18% as it settles in region of 3669.88, down -6.44 points in these moments. In addition, the S&P 500 is trading in negative territory, operating at 1702.17, descending -4.28 points or -0.26% at the time of writing. Finally, the Dow Jones has moved lower at the opening, trading in the zone of 15599.32, presently -0.18% after a movement of -27.70 points.

Sectors are all lower at the opening, however the Energy and Industrial sectors have distinguished themselves as the losers thus far, falling -0.37% and -0.30% respectively. Moreover, the price of gold has settled at $1311.93 per oz., while silver is now negotiating a spot price of $19.94 per oz. Friday.

USD/CAD session low 1.0338

USD/CAD is lost ground from close to 1.0404 to print a low of 1.0338 on disappointing US job numbers.
